Waste collectors recycle roughly 400 tons each day in Bangalore, India. An estimated 20,000 impoverished people dig through dangerous landfills in vacant lots.
Urban planning expert and director of Global Communities Brian English worked with the country's government to formalize the recycling process. He helped bring the group of marginalized workers out of the shadows and legitimized the industry by creating recycling centers.
