a teacher myself, i involuntarily support a union; membership is not required but dues are. there is absolutely no incentive for my union to provide good service. it has a lock on its job (and elections of officers within does not constitute answerability). at the very least, the monopoly on representation should be eliminated and unions should bid on representation contracts for fixed terms.
