Nearly four months after Trayvon Martin was shot and killed, we haven’t forgotten the tragedy surrounding his death. Undoubtedly, no one’s memories of Trayvon are stronger than his family’s. It’s hard to imagine the grief they’re dealing with, especially for his dad, on his first Father’s Day without him. Still, as Trayvon’s mother Sybrina Fulton did on Mother’s Day, Tracy Martin is turning his personal grief into public activism.
Martin partnered with the Second Chance Campaign to spread the word about the need for reform of dangerous gun policies, like Stand Your Ground. Though it’s tragic that Martin had to go through the pain of losing his son, it’s inspiring to see him honor his memory through activism, and make sure other parents don’t have to endure the same pain.
