More than 150,000 people have died in the Syrian civil war. Millions of refugees are forced to flee to Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. Sarah Wayne Callies works with the International Rescue Committee to help the refugee population get to know one another and find support.
Those who suffer the most are refugee children. The IRC has the opportunity to build bridges by reaching out to children and nurturing the sense that we can help others, despite coming from different backgrounds.
Callies sums up her desire to help others succinctly, saying, "I am one human being with a beating heart, and so are you."
