From World Health Organization -- It seems that around the world, many people suffering from mental illness are subjected to human rights violations. Here is a Q&A on how we can all help improve the rights of people with mental illness.
“ Change attitudes and raise awareness. Ministries of Health, mental health service user and family groups, health professionals, NGOs, academic institutions, professional organizations and other stakeholders should unify their efforts in educating and changing public attitudes towards mental illness and in advocating for the rights of people with mental disorders. ”
Being bipolar most of my life has doomed me to a path of pain and discrimination. Fortuntately I received treatment, got off medication and am in the process of obtaining an education. Here in Corpus Christi, TX, we are arrested, abused, and denied our rights in Nueces County Jail. Most of the inmates in jail are mentally ill. No medical care, strip searched in front of opposite sex guards and denied basic human rights. The mentally ill are also abused by Nueces County MHMR. They use the police to punish them for being sick. Who can sop horrible thing?
