The global food crisis is not a result of food shortages globally, but rather the result of many complicated, intertwined factors. Extreme weather worldwide has wiped out critical crops. Additionally, as oil resources are depleted, more agricultural land is being converted to grow fuel sources, such as corn. Speculation by commodities exchanges and hedge funds has also created a rise in food prices that does not accurately reflect the market. These, among many others, are causes for the rise in food prices and food shortages worldwide.
