Gaza Rocket Fire Intensifies
Comment from the contributor:
From The New York Times --
After a six-month ceasefire brokered by Egypt, Hamas declared they would not renew the terms of the agreement. As tensions escalated, Palestinian militants fired rockets accross the border. On December 24th, 2008, 60 rockets were fired into Southern Israel. According to NYT, the rocket fire was in response to Zionist aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.
Israel responded aggressively, launching an all-out ground offensive that killed many civilians.
Why did Hamas end the ceasefire? And what are the effects on the region? BBC's Q&A offers a quick guide.
To get a better understanding of why these tensions over Gaza continue, it is critical to understand the history of the conflict, and sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
