There's a long road ahead for the field of mental illness, but it is important to note the progress we've made as a society in caring for mental disorders. The stigma attached to mental conditions must be confronted:

Too many people affected by mental illness are dumped into the prison system or become homeless because of a lack of diagnosis and treatment.

It is not just the poor and uneducated who are afflicted. Many powerful, successful people have suffered from mental disorders, including nearly half the U.S. Presidents in history.

Adults are not alone in experiencing chemical imbalances -- millions of youths are affected as well. Unfortunately, thousands of college students with unidentified mental disorders do not use the mental health resources often at their disposal.
