Coke or Pepsi? Lately, for Americans, it’s neither.
Last year, total sales of carbonated beverages dropped to their lowest level since 1995. (Sales have plummeted every year since 2005.) Thanks in part to growing awareness of the obesity and health concerns related to the sugary beverages, two out of three Americans avoid soda, according to a July Gallup poll.
As soft drinks face their possible demise, healthier alternatives are thriving. Coconut water went from nearly nothing in 2004 to sales of more than $400 million in 2013, according to Yahoo Finance.
