Ecotourism Comes to Sierra Leone
Tribewanted arrived on the shores of John Obey beach in September 2010 with the goal of building a sustainable community from scratch. With the help of 100 tribe members from across the globe, two earth-domes, two traditional wood bungalows, a kitchen, a solar tower/office, a couple of compost toilets, bucket showers and a permaculture garden were built in the first year. Thirty people from John Obey village were employed and microloans were given to 50 people.
The second season is underway and Tribewanted needs your help. This year, a third earth bag structure called "The Wall" and another traditional wood bungalow will be built. Animals will be added to the farm and more renewable energy projects are on the horizon. Tribewanted will also become involved in more community goodwill efforts, including re-forestation, a tree nursery, youth projects and an elders fund.
