If one-third of the country lost electricity for a day, we’d immediately declare a nationwide emergency. Yet one of every three Americans gets hurt through domestic abuse daily. So why aren’t we freaking out about it?
That’s the idea behind Verizon’s “Because Voices Have Power” campaign. We’ve partnered with the communications company to give domestic violence victims a platform to speak out and to raise awareness about this massive problem.
How does the campaign work? Just send your words of encouragement to people affected by dating or domestic abuse. For every message we receive, Verizon will chip in $3 to fund dating and domestic violence prevention organizations across the country. So far, we’ve received almost 2,000 messages. Click through to read some of the most inspiring, and then send us yours so we can make this a national discussion, not a national secret.
