Did you know that more than 780 million of the world’s adults (nearly two-thirds of whom are women) do not know how to read or write, and between 94 and 115 million children lack access to education? September 8th is International Literacy Day—a day to celebrate reading and raise awareness about how far we need to go in the U.S. and abroad.
In the U.S., according to the NCES, only 53 percent of children aged 3-5 years old are read to daily and less than half of high school students read 10 books a year.
On International Literacy Day, pick up a book to read to your child and one to read on your own. If you're unsure what book to read, check out what books inspire these 10 celebrities.
