Getting hit with a red rubber ball was once synonymous with the American high school experience. But not for much longer given that some schools are adopting bans on the sport. So far school districts in Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Maine, Utah and Massachusetts have taken action against dodgeball. The schools believe it fosters too much violence and opportunity for bullying by targeting one student. Also, they don’t love that some kids can spend the entire game sitting on the sidelines, not participating.
Given the myriad of other games available for physical education, it seems like the American public can tolerate the loss of dodgeball.
