Americans are increasingly taking to the roads on bicycles.
According to data collected by the National Household Travel Survey, the number of bicycle trips in the U.S. more than doubled from 1.7 billion in 2001 to around 4 billion in 2009.
Problem is, with that many bicyclists on the road, accidents are bound to happen. In 2012, 726 cyclists were killed in crashes and 49,000 were injured.
For interest to continue to grow, so too must innovation in bicycle safety. By and large, it has, with today’s velocipedes getting smarter and safer.
