The French Open concluded today, with Rafael Nadal taking home his eighth championship win, which was a tournament record. But before his match against David Ferrer was over, a handful of protesters let loose in the stadium, lighting flares and, in one case, rushing the court.
According to CBS, the display was an effort to protest the recently passed French law legalizing same-sex marriage and same-sex adoption.
Though most of France is in favor of same-sex marriage, those who aren't have been noticeably vitriolic in their displays leading up to and after the passage of that law. Gay adoption remains an issue that's less widely accepted.
For those who are critical of both, this is how they expressed those sentiments during the final match of the French Open.
