If you've ever wondered what to do with all of your old plastic bottles—aside from tossing them into a recycling bin—consider grabbing some string and making your own repurposed hanging botanical garden.
The designers at the Brazilian design firm Rosenbaum teamed up with their local television show, Home Sweet Home (Lar Doce Lar), and set out to redesign dozens of area homes, giving equal attention to their interiors and exteriors. The Roberts family residence was one of the lucky recipients.
A family of three, the mother and her two teenage daughters make just $200 a month—mostly from selling their homemade foods. They were in need of several special amenities: a front-yard area that would provide a natural retail space for their business, a house in the rear that offered more than one sleeping area, and finally, at their request, a garden that could make use of their recycled plastic containers. The hanging garden above is the result.
But after the television show aired, Colossal reports the firm was inundated by requests from the public wanting to know how to replicate the design in their own homes. Illustrated instructions are publicly available. The text may be in Portugese, but taking the ten seconds to pop them into Google Translate will be well worth the effort.
The final creation shows what a little imagination and some attention towards ecological health can create. This soda-pop garden is good for the environment, it's good for the family and it's beautiful to behold.
