“Outbreaks related to E. coli, salmonella, and other dangerous pathogens appear to have decreased by more than 40 percent in the past 10 years,” CSPI says in their press release. They believe better safety practices may be responsible, but they also say that reporting may be down because of insufficient funding for public health agencies. In other words, it could be that there aren’t fewer cases, only fewer reports. Or it could be a combination of these two factors.
