What do you do if you're the leader of a small island nation that is only seven feet above sea level, but the world is dragging its feet on rising sea levels and climate change? You hold the world's only underwater cabinet meeting.
Mohamed Nasheed was the first democratically elected president of the Maldives, a nation made up of tiny islands and atolls in the Indian Ocean. If sea levels rise much further, the Maldives may be one of the first nations on Earth to be swallowed up by the ocean, and its 328,000 or so people will have to find another place to live. Before he was deposed in a coup, Nasheed stressed to the international community that climate change is both an environmental and a human rights crisis.
