At the heart of Best Friends’ work is the dream that one day kindness will replace cruelty and animals will no longer be destroyed because they are unwanted or imperfect. Making this dream a reality is the mission we call No More Homeless Pets.

At the Sanctuary

Best Friends runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary, where, at any given time, almost 2,000 homeless animals are receiving the vet care and love they need to overcome their pasts and find forever homes. Among them are the "Vicktory" dogs, rescued and rehabilitated at Best Friends. For over 25 years, Best Friends has helped homeless pets with special needs heal from their hard life journeys and begin new lives.

Around the Country

Right now, millions of homeless pets are at risk. Through innovative grassroots efforts, Best Friends reaches out to provide lifesaving rescue, adoption, spay/neuter and advocacy programs across the country.  And the online Best Friends Network and Community Animal Assistance hotline offer free advice and resources to help people save thousands of animals in their communities each year.

Emergency Response and Rescue

Best Friends is there to save animals when disasters strike. From Hurricane Katrina to Haiti, hoarding situations, failed shelters and war-torn countries, our Emergency Response Team has rescued thousands of animals. Our members, volunteer network and partnerships nationwide make it possible for Best Friends to save animals.
