Report: Ties Between Lifelong Poverty And Heart Disease

Reuters is reporting today that the American Journal of Epidemiology has published a study connecting life-long poverty to increased heart disease. Amy Norton reports:
Much of the disparity seemed to be explained by higher rates of "classic" heart disease risk factors, said lead researcher Dr. Eric B. Loucks, who was at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, at the time of the study. People who were disadvantaged throughout life were, for example, more likely to smoke or be obese, explained Loucks.
The cycle of poverty is clearly linked with health and lifestyle issues, particularly with obesity, like was mentioned in the report, but also access to contraceptives. Make sure to takepart by donating to the American Heart Association
