Justice Ginsburg Treated for Pancreatic Cancer

ginsburg1Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent surgery today for pancreatic cancer. The 75 year old judge was operated on at Memorial Sloan-Kettering hospital in Manhattan. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of the disease with a rate of only 5% of those suffering from it surviving past five years. Ginsburg was fortunate however in that the disease was diagnosed early. The Justice was previously afflicted with colon cancer in 1999 which was successfully treated with radiation therapy, during which time she never missed a day on the bench of the Supreme Court. Ginsburg has expressed a desire to be back on the high court when it reconvenes on February 23rd, however many doctors have expressed doubts as to whether such a swift recovery time is possible after the type of treatment she has just undergone.
