The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act: Obama Signs His First Bill (video)

Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay act today, the first he signed as President. The act ensures women everywhere have the right to sue for pay discrimination whenever they discover it. Previously, women had 180 days from the date of a first paycheck to file such a complaint and now, women will have 180 days from their most recent paycheck. The bill was named after the amazing Lily Ledbetter. She sued her employer Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Gadsden, Alabama, after learning that she was getting paid less than men who held comparable jobs. The Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit because she had missed the 180-day window for filing such lawsuits. Well, those days are over!
