Census: More than 54 million disabled in U.S.

The U.S. Census Bureau has reported that more than 54 million U.S. residents, or about 19 percent of the population, have some sort of disability, and only 46 percent of adults with a disability are employed. The figure, based on 2005 data, is an improvement from the 2002 survey, which showed that51.2 million people or 18 percent reported a disability.
