From Center on Budget and Policy Priorities -- This video commemorates the 30th anniversary of the of the reforms achieved by the Food Stamp Act of 1977. It tells the story of how food stamps dramatically reduced the extent of severe hunger in the United States, how they continue to help Americans in need, and how this essential program can achieve still more. People discuss how the program saved their lives.
One of the myths in the food stamp program is that it serves only those who won’t work orcan’t work for some reason, but the opposite is true. We have more and more working families, especially families with children.
