Leah Bogen and Will Nicholson of Minnesota were reading the Sunday papers at their home in Maple Grove, Minnesota, when they were struck by the images coming out of Haiti. They decided they could not sit idly by in the midst of such suffering and need, so they decided to make a donation to a relief organization on the ground in Haiti. Nothing unusual there, since thousands have made a similar gesture over the past week. But what does set Bogen and Nicholson apart is this: the $2,500 they donated to Partners in Health was from their wedding fund, and represented the entire food budget. The Duluth News Tribune reports:
“I don’t think I’ve ever given more than 50 bucks to anything,” Nicholson said. “It’s a great way to start our relationship. It’s a great gesture to say: ‘This is what we want to do; this is who we are for the rest of our lives.’ ”
