Iranian Authorities Harassing Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi

Time Magazine is reporting that Iranian authorities have begun a campaign of harassment directed at Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi. Although she spoke out after last summer's disputed elections, Time notes that her criticism was moderate, and she left the country shortly after the polls. In recent days, the regime has confiscated her Nobel medal from a Tehran safe deposit box, and frozen the bank accounts of Ebadi and her husband. Time notes:

Most believe that Ebadi's role in Iran's domestic scene doesn't warrant Tehran's making a spectacle. The government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has effectively sidelined Ebadi from public life since 2005.
