Top 10 Movie Performances of 2008

There were some great performances this past year on the big screen.  Below are my top 10.  The list mixes starring and supporting performances, male and female roles and American and foreign films.  I also decided not rank the list and put it in alphabetical order by the performers last name.  And of course this list is just a small sample of the year's best performances - so if I missed yours, let me know what it is in the comments.

Also be sure to takepart and read up on the potential SAG strike, which could change how many performances we see next year.

______

Asia Argento in Boarding Gate, Mother of Tears and The Last Mistress

Miss. Argento lit up the screen multiple times this year. The look on her face at the end of Boarding Gate sold the entire film for me and her turn in The Last Mistress is truly amazing.  She is beautiful, but beauty doesn't account for the magnetism she gave us in 2008.

Time Magazine has beaten a lot of publications to the punch and complied a bunch of top ten lists - some typical, some not so but all of them relevant to 2008.  As per usual when it comes to top ten lists, I agree with some things and disagree with others.

For example they have a list of the Top 10 Campaign Video Moments and didn't mention the amazing video of the 5th grader interviewing Joe Biden:

They also did their Top 10 Movies and while I still have some things to see before I make my own list (which will be right here on TakePart) I have to question their inclusion of Speed Racer? More

Au Revior Guillaume Depardieu

Some sad news, actor Guillaume Depardieu died today at the age of 37 from pneumonia complications. Depardieu was kind of infamous fellow for his falling outs with his famous father, his altercations (that led to jail) and for the fact that he had his leg amputated in 2003.

I'd simply like to remember him for his performances - two of which came in two of my favorite films from this year - The Duchess of Langeais directed by Jacques Rivette (the trailer is below) and Serge Bozon's La France (the trailer is after the jump).
