CBO: US Climate Bill Creates $21bn in Savings Over Next 10 Years
By Aimee Christensen, Chair, Clean Economy Network Inc., and Executive Director, Global Observatory
Today's news reinforces what business leaders have been saying for years, and more loudly this year as the Congress has considered action on climate change: solving this great global challenge will benefit our bottom line, will improve our quality of life, and will grow our economy (see, e.g., http://www.wecanlead.org). There is also a business cost to inaction—businesses are missing opportunities to create new jobs, to create and grow new technologies, and to become more efficient and competitive. It is long past time to act. Perhaps the CBO report will finally give our political leaders in Washington the ammunition they need to move ahead, and lead.
