Climate Justice Fast (Video)

Inconvenient Truth of the Day

The Climate Justice Fast began on November 6th as an international hunger strike to demand effective and justice action on climate change at the UN climate conference in Copenhagen.  Participants will refrain from eating food and drink only water for extended intervals and in some cases until the summit this December or beyond.

Throughout history hunger strikes have proven very effective in raising awareness of an issue and instigate important changes, and I admire those willing to make such an extreme personal sacrifice to call for action on climate change.  A fast for climate justice is perhaps particularly appropriate considering climate change poses a serious threat to the global food supply with crop failures and famine becoming increasingly more common if we fail to reduce emissions.

If you decide to join the Climate Justice Fast, even for a short period of time, I urge you to carefully read the medical advisory on fasting and take proper precautions to avoid health complications.  There are also plenty of ways to show your support for action without fasting yourself, use the Act section to find out how you can get involved.
