U.S., Chinese Companies Building Wind Farm in Texas

While an American company has already partnered with the Chinese government to build a ginormous solar power plant over in China, now we're teaming with the Chinese to bring renewable energy to our shores. Sweet deal, America.

The New York Times reports that a group comprising myriad Chinese and American companies will build a huge wind farm in Texas, with the turbines built by Chinese firms.

Oh, also, Chinese banks are largely financing the $1.5 billion project, along with some loans and grants from the U.S. government. So, yeah, China loooooves owning most of the United States. Anyway, says the Times:

The farm, to be built on 36,000 acres in West Texas, will use 240 of its 2.5-megawatt turbines. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2010, and the project is expected to create 300 temporary jobs and about 30 permanent jobs. Six hundred megawatts of wind power is enough to meet the electricity needs of between 135,000 and 180,000 American homes for a year.

That's some good energy right there. I mean, 150,000 homes powered for a full year on wind? That's more than awesome.
