Help Protect Food Safety and Animal Welfare In Ohio From Corporate Interests

A proposed ballot initiative in Ohio threatens food safety and animal welfare improvements by giving permanent and unchecked power to corporate and special interests, and could pave the way for a radical shift in agribusiness standards in other states as well.

It's extremely important that on November 3rd, voters in Ohio vote "No" on Issue 2, the proposed measure, to help protect family farms, animal welfare improvements, the environment, food safety and consumer health from this greedy power grab by corporate agribusiness and factory farm proponents.

Issue 2 is opposed by a wide variety of leading organizations and experts, including the Ohio Farmers Union, the Humane Society, several environmental groups, and many local newspapers.   According to Food & Water Watch:

While masquerading as an attempt to improve food safety and animal welfare, Issue 2 would give a board of political appointees unchecked power to decide any and all regulations related to animal agriculture. The board could make decisions that radically shift policy in any direction on issues like the use of antibiotics and growth hormones, genetically engineered animals, cloned animals, animal ID and traceability, and factory farm zoning regulations.
