Hungry for Change

Today is World Food Day, and while over one billion people are suffering from hunger and malnutrition around the globe, bringing an end to this terrible situation is an achievable goal.  There are plenty of ways that you can get involved in the effort, and below I've highlighted five ways that you can help fight hunger today.  By focusing on food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture, the international community has the potential to come together and protect the health and lives of those in need today and for future generations.

1.  Submit a short film to the Hunger Bytes International Video Competition

Organized by the World Food Programme, the Hunger Bytes video competition invites filmmakers from around the world, both amateur and professional to create short videos about hunger.  They're looking for the "edgiest, most provocative" films to inspire people to get involved in fighting hunger, so let your creative energies run wild and help make a difference.

2. Support the "Billion For A Billion" Campaign

As Gina just pointed out, there are plenty of ways to get involved in the "Billion For A Billion" Campaign, and you can do it while you're here on line.  By encouraging your friends, family and community to get involved, we can use the power of one billion people online to help feed one billion people around the world.

3.  Join Sarah Silverman and play Free Rice Online Game

Sarah Silverman's suggestion to sell the Vatican to feed the world may not be entirely feasible, but simply by playing the online game Free Rice, you can help the UN World Food Program fight hunger.

4. Put a Photo on the Wall Against Hunger

Everybody loves sharing photographs, and by posting your photos on the Wall Against Hunger, you can help feed a child in honor of someone you love.

5. Take a Lesson from Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger

Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger is an online classroom where teachers, students and young people can learn about the problem of global hunger and what they can do to help.   The World Food Programme also offers plenty of  lesson plans and classroom activities to help inspire kids to fight hunger.

To fight hunger, we need to increas wealth (not "jobs"). The way is via education. We need to teach independent creative thinking, starting from basic principles and using logic. We need to focus on education of our enemies in Afghanistan. See "Teaching and Helping Students Think and Do Better" on amazon.
