Time's Up for Dolphins in Taiji

coveposter1There's a little town in Japan called Taiji which used to seem like an unremarkable place with Buddhist temples, a whale museum, fishermen and a verdant national park nestled around a small cove. It used to have a big secret, too. Through the award-winning documentary, The Cove, the bloody secret of this town has been exposed to the world. Beginning September 1st through March 23,000 dolphins and porpoises are slaughtered. With the world watching,Taiji is now at the epicenter of an ongoing battle to stop this horrible practice. The thousands of dolphins are routinely rounded up by fisherman and driven into the cove. There, they are chosen by dolphin trainers for a destitute life in a tank somewhere around the globe or a swim-with dolphin program. The so-called less appealing ones are chopped up and found neatly stacked in styrofoam trays in Japanese supermarkets (often mislabeled as whale meat).  Most Japanese people are completely unaware of what is happening in Taiji. While Taiji might be thousands of miles away, there's much you can do right now to help stop this slaughter. 1. Send a letter to Obama Administration officials and the Japanese Ambassador to the US 2. Ask others to get involved. 3. As a tourist, think twice before you participate in a swim-with-dolphin program or visit a captive dolphin. There's a good chance such an animal could be from Taiji. 4. See the Cove! It's a beautiful, engaging, enthralling and fascinating film that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The secret is out. The slaughter has begun in Taiji. We can all take action now to shut the cove down.

Please stop the dolphin drives and dolphing slaughters.
Dolphin meat, which is high in mercury content, should not be served to Japanese children at school.

I'd just like to add that we should NOT boycott Japan. We have an opportunity to educate the world (including the majority of Japanese who do not know this is happening). We need to work with Japanese citizens to shut Taiji down rather than boycott the country.

An interesting video I found on the whaling in other part of the world (maybe they stopped? I don't know)

I can’t say if this is right or wrong because I eat meat. To me raising Cow/Pig/Chicken in a farm is no better than whaling like this. I don’t see how humane we can be because we are killing the animal. Here, we let the animal run around in the farm and give them all the food they ever want to eat… then we chop their head after several months. Sad but true.

What happens when a hypocrite and a liar actually has something to say this time?

Ric O'Barry is a grandstanding fool and a hypocrite that has embellished his credentials and experience to garner press and make money off the activist movement for the last 30 years. If you want to know more about him follow this link to read about how he almost killed two dolphins he released illegally. publicaffairs.noaa.gov/releases99/june99/noaa99r134.html

That being said, what is happening in Taiji is disgusting and deserves condemnation. The slaughter is an outdated and outlandish practice that serves no one.

I created a petition to include dolphins and porpoises in the International Whale Conservation and Protection Act of 2009, currently before the U.S. House of Representatives. Sign it here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/dolphins-are-whales-too and send it to all your friends to sign, too. Ric, you're an inspiration!

While watching this film, shoulders hunched, nails bit into my palm, face twitched, teeth ground, tears ran down face, and my heart... gone. THIS MUST STOP!

I wish everyone go see it, or at least, be aware of it and do something about it. It really aches to know that right now, at this moment, hundreds and thousands of dolphins are being killed. It's totally insane!

Twice in my life I've had the amazing experience of swimming with dolphins. They came when I needed them swam in a circle around me, the people on the beach applauded as though they were at SeaWorld as the dolphins jumped around me cheering me up! My kindred spirits!

I am at this moment watching the most amazing show called how Dolphins saved my life.
A pod of Dolphins saved some swimmers in the Ocean in New Zealand, they circled a for forty minutes to saved the swimmers from a Great White attack!!! These animals are Hero's an have more empathy then most humans. Please find it in your heart to fight for these brilliant, empathic Dolphins. Thank you
