tofuAccording to the UK's Daily Mail, vegans are allowed to purchase animal friendly snacks, cosmetics, and personal care items from vegan and natural product shops recently added to the prison's merchandiser list. Heath food and natural product stores Holland & Barrett, Honestly Cosmetics, and Lavera will now be able to receive orders.

The victory was claimed by the UK-based Vegan Prisoners Support Group, founded in 1994 and representing over 500 vegan prisoners in the nation.

The ruling sparked massive debate: should criminals be allowed to express preferences? Did inmates sacrifice luxuries and many choices when they committed a crime? Does it make sense that people who may have hurt other people support animal rights?

According the article, UK prison bosses were ordered to allow pagan inmates to keep twigs in their cells to use as wands during their rituals in May.

Vegan Prisoners Support Group is currently fighting for the availability of vegan shoes and vegan sources of protein in the dining hall.
