On What Should the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference Focus?

picture-12As we know, the UN Climate Change Conference at Copenhagen is fast approaching, with representatives from scores of countries meeting in December to try to adopt a climate change treaty that will succeed the Kyoto Protocol. Leading up to the summit, various countries have been meeting and trying to figure out, what, exactly, ought to be included in the new international agreement. There are all sorts of different proposals on the table, and, quite honestly, it's hard to figure out what stipulations would best help combat climate change.

Which is why the wish list of different non-governmental organizations compiled by the Guardian is so helpful. Scouring the internets, the Guardian (in conjunction with Sandbag.org) has created an interactive chart stating which NGOs are asking for what. For example, if I want to see who is requesting changes in regards to international politics, and organize the chart that way, and see that Greenpeace International wants to see "World leaders to attend the meeting in person, agree to mandatory cuts in emissions for the developed world of 40% by 2020 and invest £84bn a year in developing countries so they can shift to a low-carbon economy, end deforestation and adapt to climate change impacts." And there's a link to the relevant Greenpeace page, too.

All and all, it's a great resource to see what those that work tirelessly to stop global warming think is most important leading up to the Copenhagen talks. As well, it can help you decide what you think these world leaders ought to be focusing on, and can let your government know!
