Obama to Pitch Baseballs and United We Serve

Major League Baseball celebrates the best of their bunch tonight at the annual All-Star Game.  And in that spirit President Barack Obama will be on hand to throw out the opening pitch and to promote his United We Serve program. In fact community service will be the focus of all the pre-game fun at tonight's game.  Before President Obama throws out the first pitch 5 community volunteers will be honored and a video will be shown that features all living former presidents promoting community service.

Obama will be the first president in 33 years to throw the first pitch at an All-Star game and I have to say he picked a great cause to end the presidential All-Star drought.   One of the things that has always made me proud that Obama is our president is that he understands that we as citizens need to change how we go about our own individual lives if we want out country as a whole to change.   A huge part of that is making volunteering/service cool again and I can't think of a better way to do that than to attend the coolest baseball game of the season.

Credit Barack's handlers for deftly having Albert Pujols cut out of the camera shot for the ceremonial throwing out of the first pitch just in case the throw was wild or bounced up to the plate. We later got to see the full shot, a successful toss albiet Pujols was a full two feet in front of the plate just for added insurance. Sure is nice to have the media as a willing accomplice. Had Bush's people asked for the same edit then that alone would have been the story. All of America saw it but no one in the major media will dare comment on it.
