Costco Starts to Come Around on Food Stamps

Nothing makes me happier then when the blogsphere lends a hand to creating positive change.

Last week myself and many other folks including the New York Times, wrote about Costco's anti-food stamps ways and this week they announced that they will start accepting food stamps in two of their New York City stores-one in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and one in Astoria, Queens.  The higher-ups say that this is just an experiment to see if there is enough of a demand and to make bringing food stamps into the mix doesn't hurt their efficiency.

If all goes well in Brooklyn and Queens they will put the program in all of their stores although hey don't plan on moving the program outside of New York City. Even so this action by Costco represents a small, important step towards change.   And that is something I can definitely get down with.
