Swine 'Flu' or 'Flue'? America, You Decide!
America, and the rest of the world for that matter, is understandably curious about any news about swine flu. But if Google Trends is any indicator of our investigative skills, it seems people are confused about the difference between 'flu', as in influenza, and 'flue', as in a chimney vent for that prevents your house from filling up with smoke. Michael Roston from True/Slant discovered that "swine flue" was the fifth most popular on Google earlier this morning. Impressive. Maybe people are genuinely concerned about the third Little Pig that built his house out of brick, cause he probably has a swine flue for his chimney!
If you've never looked at Google Trends, I encourage you to take a gander, as it is a fascinating barometer for what people are searching for at any given moment. While the list is generally dominated by such riveting topics as the personal lives of sports stars or the latest update on So You Think You Can Dance, occasionally you can stumble upon a recent addition to the zeitgeist. Not today, though.
