Bo Diddley Obama: The First Dog
The Obamas have welcomed the newest member of the White House a few days early: "Bo Diddley" Obama, a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog, arrived today as a gift of Sen. Ted Kennedy. While you may think there are bigger stories to pay attention to right now, the announcement of the First Dog has been a hot topic with various sources competing for the scoop. Supposedly First Dog Charlie, a mysterious website, released photos of the pup yesterday but the Washington Post claims that they were promised a first peek:
The girls named it Bo -- and let it be noted that you learned that here first. Malia and Sasha chose the name, because their cousins have a cat named Bo and because first lady Michelle Obama's father was nicknamed Diddley, a source said. (Get it? Bo . . . Diddley?)
Either way, the dog is pretty handsome (full disclosure: I had a Portuguese water dog/mutt growing up), but was not from a shelter, as was initially planned, however, the Obama's plan to donate to the D.C. Humane Society. Alright, now we can get back to more pressing issues, like the master's purse.takepart by supporting the Humane Society's Animal Shelter program.

What a strange idea to give your human family name to a dog. This is not how one should name a dog. Here are several dog naming systems for reference:

My first thought when I read the pup's name: Do the letters "B" and "O" come from Barack Obama? Why would the girls name the dog after their Dad? But I guess they didn't - just a coincidence. BTW - cute dog!
