Largest Homeless Shelter in LA Orders More EDARs to Meet Influx of Families
Hot on the trails of Whoopi Goldberg's mention of Splashlife earlier today on The View, tomorrow night's 20/20 features a segment called "Life on the Edge: The New Homeless." EDARs, temporary shelters for the homeless, are featured as the solution for the increase in families coming to the Union Rescue Mission for shelter. The Mission, currently LA's biggest homeless shelter, ordered an additional 46 EDARs due to the sharp rise in families coming to them for assistance, half of whom are homeless for the first time. They are even converting the chapel into an emergency shelter, similar to Red Cross.
Did you know that you can give a homeless family a shelter for just $500? Times are tough for everyone, but the true integrity of a country is always measured by how it treats its underpriviledged. takepart and watch the preview for tomorrow's 20/20 segment that airs at 10 pm. And be sure to read up on all-things-EDAR.

I do not have any contacts but could drive by and get the church address etc. for you. Thanks for taking the time to encourage this growth. We have had a terrible and long winter in Seattle and every time I pass tent city it seems to be raining or snowing. Your EDARS may be just what we need. Let me know if you want to find out more information for you. A. Dunn the blog editor can give you my private email address.
Dear Lit Coach;
We read coincidentally today on cnn.com about the Seattle community at a church. We are going to call the church tomorrow to see if they can use EDARs to improve things.... at first look it seems a good match. Do you have any relationship with the leadership there? Best, Peter Samuelson / EDAR.
I'm curious about where they "park" the Edar units. In Seattle we have "tent cities" which move from community to community every three months. It's not a great solution but local governments don't allow churches to host tent cities for more than 90 days. It's an interesting partial solution.
I appreciate Kevin's information about smaller donations, well done.
EDAR also recently made an account on the new micro-donation system Propits, at the request of Propits users. We at Propits are happy to have them - EDAR has an important mission. As they gain national media coverage, we can help them to capture the casual giver who may not be ready to write a big check, but who can certainly put EDAR on their giving list for a steady stream of smaller contributions. Welcome, guys!
