Finally: US Combat Troops to Leave Iraq by August 2010

iraqUS Combat Troops will exit Iraq by August 2010, Obama Administration officials announced today.  The withdrawal date is a few months later than that promised by Obama in his 2008 Presidential when he vowed to pull combat troops from the war torn Middle East nation 16 months after he took office.  However, it's still considerably better than the timetable set by Obama's opponent, John McCain, who proclaimed he would keep troops in Iraq for "100 years" if necessary.

The Iraq War will hopefully serve as a reminder for years into the future of the perils and unpredictability of waging a modern war.  What was supposed to be a military operation that would end in a matter of months will have turned into a more than seven year long occupation by the time troops are withdrawn next summer.
