New Yorker Films Going Out of Business

New Yorker Films, the distributor of some of most important foreign films to ever hit American shores, is going out of business after 43 years. Few film companies on the planet could boast such an impressive library as the New York City based house whose roster of film artists read like a who's who of world cinema. Directors such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Federico Fellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Akira Kurosawa, Andrei Tarkovsky and Zhang Yimou, just to name a few, all had films distributed in the United States by New Yorker.
The closing of this cultural treasure is yet another result of the troubled economy where easy credit and outstanding loans simply aren't an option for American businesses anymore. The library of New Yorker Films is being auctioned off next week after being pledged as collateral on a loan taken out by its former company, Madstone Films.
