ostpBarack Obama has appointed two of the leading climate scientists in the world, John Holdren and Jane Lubchenco, to top positions in his administration. Holdren will head the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Lubchenco will helm the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Holdren is currently serving as a professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and the head of the Wood's Hole Research Center in Massachusetts. His research career has focused on the causes and effects of Global Environmental Change. Lubchenco is a professor of zoology at Oregon State University whose research has also focused on climate change. The appointments are clear signals that when it comes to global warming the incoming White House will not be pulling any punches regarding policy. While Obama has pursued some appointees that represent substantial compromises from his own policy, there will be no compromise about Global Warming.
