Biden Gets a New Dog, and We Revisit Nixon's Checkers Speech
Looks like Joe Biden is also going to be bringing a dog to the White House...or the Vice Presidential Shack...or wherever it is Vice Presidents spend all their time (we'll say Executive Office Building and go on). Politico (via Yahoo!) tells us that Biden has picked out a new month-old German shepherd, which sounds adorable, as "Biden was reportedly promised the post-election dog by his wife, Jill." Haha, he's Vice President in his family, too.
A story about Vice Presidents and dogs can only lead to one thing. That's right. Nixon. Here's the second half of his (in)famous Checkers speech, where he talks about getting a dog as a gift.
The speech laid out the entirety of his wealth as an attempt to beat back accusations he had been taking illegal contributions to his campaign. It is also extremely notable because it contains the best phrase ever uttered in politics (and I know that's a bold claim): "I should say this, that Pat doesn't have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable, Republican, cloth coat." Pwned, everyone else, ever. You'll never say something that awesome.
If you're thinking about getting a dog, takepart to find your nearest animal shelter. Biden may have gone to a breeder, but isn't it better to rescue one?
