Save Internet Radio
As I write this I am enjoying music specifically suited to my tastes thanks to Pandora.com. Pandora is a music recommendation and Internet radio service created by the Music Genome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar. Love it!
This weekend the House of Representatives supported Pandora and Internet radio passing the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008. Now the Senate needs to do the same. After a yearlong negotiation, Pandora, SoundExchange and the RIAA are hopeful about reaching an agreement on royalties that would save Pandora and Internet radio. The legislation would give Pandora the extra time they need to finalize the deal.
Help save Internet radio by calling your Senators today and ask them to support the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008.
takepart and visit http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm to find out contact info for your state senate. The person who answers the phone in your Senator's office may ask for the bill number - it's H.R. 7084 (if they ask for a Senate bill number, you can assure them that in this unusual case, the Senate is actually voting on the House bill number).
