Renewable Energy
The U.S. transportation sector is 97% dependent on dwindling oil supplies
The fact is, at some point, oil is going to run dry. Poof. Gone. The backbone of world industry and transportation will be completely depleted, zeroed out—possibly within the next 50 years. So what will take its place? How is the world preparing to cope?
Experts have found myriad ways to harvest energy from sustainable sources. Wind, solar radiation, water, biomass, and geothermal reservoirs all provide power. In 2008, European Union leaders agreed to generate one-fifth of their energy from renewable sources by 2020. By 2030, wind could generate 20 percent of U.S. electricity. Meanwhile, the Chinese energy juggernaut rolls on: the country is expected to increase wind power production by 15,000 percent by 2030.
