Air Pollution
People living in the most polluted cities die 1.8 to 3.1 years earlier
Can there be a toxic air turnaround?
People breathe about 3,400 gallons of air every day. Cars, fossil fuels, and manufacturing chemicals pollute the air we breathe, creating toxic air, smog, acid rain, and compounds that cause great environmental and health damages, such as asthma, lung disease, and cancer.
Many think the way we are living is not sustainable and that we need to change our ways, and pay more to preserve our environment. Others argue the planet will renew itself and we do not have real cause for concern. Our energy consumption is being regulated by EPA's national program, which is expected to lower emissions of toxic air pollutants 75% in the next 10 years. If we continue in this direction, the toxic air and smog in the U.S. will be significantly reduced.
