In an attempt to curb the post-election violence, tribal clashes and riots in Kenya that have left 300 people dead and 100,000 homeless, president Mwai Kibaki has proposed a "unity government," but has not provided details as to whether a power sharing offer had been extended to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Odinga has denied receiving any offer from the government, and a spokesperson for the opposition leader stated that he would rather remain in the opposition than participate in such an arrangement. Bernard Kouchner, French foreign minister, has openly stated that he believed the recent elections providing incumbent Kibaki a winning number of votes was rigged.
Riots have created food shortages and price increases, and thousands of people have been lining up in Kenya's poorer areas to receive aid from the UN World Food Program. Security issues have slowed the process of aid distribution.
I have traveled to Kenya. I have been impressed with many Kenyans that I had met in the city and in the bush. My heart goes out to those who just wish to support their children, see to their education and live a life with pride and dignity. Live a life without violence to resovle differences.
The confusing issues I expierence there and through out Africa is all the inner clan disbutes, the warlords, and those who have fallen in living their lives with in the boundries of charity. I feel that charities are corrupt and those who are real and honest still face those who have grown to be dependant upon.
The fears that I have about Africa not just Kenya is that if the oppressed switched seats with the oppressors they would become the same and the abuse would only continue with the changing faces

I was asked to write a letter to my government regarding Kenya.
Minister of Foreign Affairs:
I am responding the the following plea:
Please send a note to your foreign minister today, asking them to withhold recognition of any Kenyan government until agreement is brokered and the election results are independently reviewed.
We helped create the global economy, so it is our responsibility to help run it fairly.
Please let Kenya, with help from Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the African Union, resolve the political issues. Do not recognize the current government until an independant assessment of the situation is completed.
Thank you for standing up for Canada!
