Jimmy Fallon Performs Eco-Friendly Remixes (Video) Posted by Danny Jensen on November 19, 2009 at 2:28 pm

picture-21Last night Jimmy Fallon performed a hilarious set of eco-friendly remixes to pop songs, creating an amazing sustainable soundtrack for NBC’s Green Week.  Some of my favorites of the environmentally-inspired rewrites include Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” adapted to celebrate Jimmy’s sustainable wood flooring and Justin Timberlake “Bringing Recycling Back”.

The green adaptations are a fun way to get people thinking about ways they can conserve energy and reduce their impact on the planet, and they’re pretty catchy too.  Check out the clip below, which also features green versions of songs from Green Day, Amy Winehouse and T.I. with Rihanna.  And be sure to use the “Act” section below to find out what you can do to get involved with NBC’s Green Week. I know what you’re thinking right this very minute. You’re thinking, “You know, reading about the climate and stuff is all well and good, but I really wish that this Kondrat character would bring me video of Jay-Z joining U2 on stage to rap during ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday,’ as that would realize many of my dreams.” Well, GUESS WHAT! Done.

Man. Powerhouses, teaming up in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Read the rest of this entry >>

These Streets Will Make You Feel Brand New Posted by Gina Telaroli on September 11, 2009 at 10:18 am

On this, the 8th anniversary of September 11th, there is nowhere I’d rather be than in New York City and more specifically at Madison Square Garden to see Jay-Z perform “Empire State of Mind.” Unfortunately I will not be at Madison Square Garden to see Jay-Z and I will have to be satisfied to be in New York City listening to “Empire State of Mind” on my laptop.

In all seriousness, though, Jay-Z’s new song is the perfect tribute to an amazing city that never gives up.  This September 11th give a listen and celebrate all that is New York City.

Jay-Z Covers Oasis (Earlier This Year, But Still Awesome) Posted by Andy Kondrat on December 4, 2008 at 9:45 am

I think it’s time for a post that has absolutely nothing to do with anything, because, you know, why not?  While looking over the top 40 music videos of 2008 (according, at least, to one source that is waaaaay cooler than all of us), I was reminded that earlier this year, rapper Jay-Z covered Oasis‘ “Wonderwall” live in concert.  And, I’m not going to lie.  Anyone who tells you that 1) “Wonderwall” is not awesome, or 2) Jay-Z is not awesome, is lying.  So I figured that this is as good a time as any to share the awesomeness with you.

Yes, I know this really isn’t new, or news, but man I can’t get enough of it.  Also, I can totally tie this in with social action.  Ready?  Here goes: a few years back, Jay-Z worked with MTV to raise awareness for the water crisis in Africa, making a documentary about the lack of clean water in Africa.  From the numbers I’m pulling off the top of my head, the lack of clean water is the number one killer in Africa - it leads to things like dysentery and pneumonia.  It kills more than HIV/AIDS, more than war, more than anything else.  So takepart and help bring clean water to Africa.  It’s cheap, and it saves lives.

Jay Z And The Water For Life Campaign Posted by Giulia Rozzi on October 3, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Jay Z was honored at the United Nations Global Leadership Awards Gala in New York on Wednesday for his work in Africa, where he had recently returned after working with programs to supply clean water. In honor of Jay- Z, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rapped at the awards ceremony saying:

Since one of the honorees is my man Jay-Z, I think I’ll try his language tonight. It is a foreign language to me, but one which I love, so please bear with me.

Then he went on to rap:
