The White Ribbon: Upcoming Movie Trailer Posted by Gina Telaroli on November 6, 2009 at 10:21 am

movie-preview41One of my favorite films at this year’s New York Film Festival, Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon, was something I was really surprised to like as much as I did.  I thought I might appreciate but I never guessed that I would enjoy it as much as I did, despite the pessimism inherently in the film, it is fascinating to watch. From my review this past October:

“The movie is a stark black and white exploration of the evils that are hidden in society and in homes and in people’s hearts. It has a wonderful sprawling cast of characters that are all tied together, making the film quite reminiscent of a 19th century novel. starts when one accident sets of a series of bad events that turn out not to be accidents at all. We learn about the incidents through the voice over of the town’s school teacher as he reflects back upon what happened in the town during that time.”

The trailer below reflects that perfectly and also, I think, shows how the film is not only a really enjoyable viewing experience but is also still classic Haneke.

I really recommend checking this out. It is great storytelling that stands on its own for sure, but also comes with a message and an examination of religion in society and fascism.  The trailer just hints at what is there, but I asusre you there is so much interconnected detail that you’ll never be bored!
